Wagging Tail-1517

I know you didn’t sleep all night waiting for the update on the epic poem.

Well you want to know the truth. Ma didn’t read it all. She gave up after the first few of the 61 verses and went straight to the “in a nutshell version”.

Bottom line is this was based on Greek mythology so not original to Chaucer. He embellished it well though and scholars rate it as his best work.

You know the usual plot of star crossed lovers and how they eventually succumb to tragedy.

That’s the deal and if asked who said the immortal words “it is nought good a sleeping hound to wake” it was Pandanus who was the lovers go between.

You know the old saying “Let Sleeping Dogs Lie” well a certain precocious Pitty person hasn’t.

I was right in the middle of a super sweet dream yesterday morning about six when she entered our chamber and tried to get into bed with Ma and me.

I went berserk!

There was almost a blood bath.

How dare she.

I hope she has learned her lesson.

For my part, thanks to this incident, I discovered that the origin of the adage in question is Proverbs 26, 17 adapted by none other than Geoffrey Chaucer in 1374 to its current form in his epic poem Troilus and Criseyde.

Did you need to know this? Of course not but commit it to memory so next time someone uses it you can be a real smart ass and smug.

I’ll give you the scoop on the plot tomorrow as I need to pee so haven’t time to dig into it right now.

Precious Peeps Pits Perfect here with another example of my intelligence.

Do you like Martha Stewart? I’m personally not that fond of her. That’s lesson number one for today. Avoid show offs!

That said I did imbibe from her appearances on TODAY that the best way to thoroughly and rapidly cook a chicken is the SPATCHCOCK method.

It dawned on me if this is true for cooking it must also be true for cooling.

So dear readers trust me that when you are overwhelmed by heat just stretch out like the proverbial fabulous fowl and you will soon feel fitter.

No need to dissect the innards though. That would be taking things to unnecessary extremes.

Precious Peeps Pits Perfect here to see you safely into the weekend.

In addition to being magnificent and all those things I talked to you about last week today I’m underlining that we also need to be smart!

With storms around always listen to the TV and when they say go to your safe spot just do it.

Mine is the restroom without windows that Granny uses most often.

I’m very familiar with this territory as I follow her there whenever she goes.

It’s sometimes a tight squeeze as you know who also joins in.

I know it may not be the most luxurious of domains but it’s got the rose soap smell among other aromas and that makes me chill.

Fortunately you know who does not seek safety he prefers to bark at storms like the stupid scruffy he is.

So dear ones please take the time to find a comfortable spot for your next tornado, take care when you hear the thunder roar and look out for flying fur balls!

Ma is addicted to YouTube TV particularly the Royal Channel.

She avidly absorbs absolutely all it has to offer from the history of ancient castles to daily updates on the current goings on!

This week it’s been mostly about the visit of the Emperor and Empress of Japan.

We had to watch the entire Royal banquet baloney. This included the speeches! The King first told the Emperor how wonderful he was and then the Emperor reciprocated by telling the King he was ace too.

Must say I was full of admiration for the Emperor’s English. I know the dude studied at Oxford so he ain’t stupid but I’m glad he didn’t expect the King to speak Japanese or it may have been a short speech.

I’d also like to commend the dear Duchess of Edinburgh for whom I have a particular soft spot. She was ravishing in her green dress and I’ve never seen her wear as many diamonds.

She really did a stellar job standing in for the PoW making small talk with the Emperor and listening attentively to his speech.

Way to go Sophie. Glad to see you right up there with all their Majesties.

Precious Peeps PITS PERFECT here to get you happily over hump day.

I know you have come to expect an uplifting midweek message from me and none can be happier than this.

I’ve been so busy helping Granny with some baking.

We made GLUTEN FREE peanut butter cookies yesterday and after she had scraped what she could out the jar she gave it to me to clean.

It took me an hour as it was a super size and my tongue only stretches so far.

The stinking Gizzard was GREEN with envy because she didn’t give him even a scrap.

I know Granny loves me beyond measure because I’m so dedicated to being her trusty sous chef.

Who else has a licker capable of going where no man has gone before.

Didn’t I do good? Aren’t I just the most beautiful, talented and helpful hound you have ever encountered!

Ma has always loved history and is part of the history chapter of the Marion Women’s Club.

Some of the gals took a little road trips yesterday to visit their pal and archivist Keily at Brownella Cottage in Galion Ohio.

This is far from your average persons perception of a cottage. Rather, it is a mini mansion filled with original furnishings from the late 1800s.

The cottage was built for Rev William Brown and his bride Ella as a wedding gift by Ella’s adoptive mother Mary when Willy was assigned to be the episcopal minister for Grace Church just across the road.

Willy went on to become a bishop in Arkansas but was subsequently struck off as he took to peculiar ways of thinking including strong leanings towards Lenin and the like!

Their story is fascinating and worth a Google but is far too long to tell in my banter.

It’s kinda spooky though as the cottage is said to be haunted.

Now would this not be a perfect place for someone with the name Scooby to visit too.

Alas I was left home with Dad which is always a history lesson in itself.

It worked! We got rain. Meant we had a very short trot yesterday morning but we didn’t complain.

Some areas got bad floods in the Mid West with river bursting but not us.

It dried up very fast so we were planning a good walk in the afternoon but the temperature soared swiftly.

What to do but watch TV. We tried out a new drama called Dr T about a very smart imprisoned dude who has OCD.

It was hard going far too complex for us. Much prefer Poirot. Don’t you think we have something in common.

We have AC thankfully but it’s never as cold upstairs as it is down in the living room.

A simple matter of physics you might say. Heat rises.

Wouldn’t you therefore think that some smart engineer might have thought to put the thermostat where the house is hottest?

Maybe we’d be all freezing during the day though.

Still this soup we are currently boiling in is not at all conducive to a good sleep.

In addition to her standard mid slumber trip to the potty Ma is now sweating like the proverbial piggy and tossing and turning and keeping me from my slumbers.

While I’m not that keen on storms I am dedicating my Sunday devotional to a petition to the Lord that he sends one soon!
