We had just put the coffee on and sat down to watch the news when we got an email from the security system at the tearoom to say there had been a power outage.
Ma called the tenant in the apartment above and she said there was a power line down in the tearoom parking lot.
This was weird because it was very calm. No storms in sight.
Turns out the dumpster for the trash collection hit a tree branch that pulled down a power line but worse still this resulted in the entire overhead electric pole coming crashing down too.
The pole missed the building by a thread.
The whole place could have gone up in smoke.
Fortunately the power to the tearoom was restored in just one hour but the neighboring buildings were out till 4:30pm!
The parking lot was teeming with people from HASMAT and the electric company not to mention all their huge service vehicles
Can you imagine if this had happened with people around or cars in the parking lot.
Fortunately the party for the day was at 5:30 PM or there would have been total pandemonium!!
Talk about a close call!!! On our 2000 banter anniversary too!!!
