Wagging Tail-2001

Yesterday Ma baked all morning. At first all seemed usual, scones , cupcakes, fifteens and shortbread. That’s her usual sequence.

However, she then took to breaking eggs and separating them one by one. It went on and on. I looked at her with my most inquisitive eye and she explained.

Your Bro wants to have Pavlova for thanksgiving and he wants to give one to his friend Stef and another to his friend Sunday so I need to crack on.

After a bit she started beating the clear runny stuff. This too went on and on and on and on until my head hurt and the runny slime was no longer runny but huge and white and fluffy. She then beat a load of sugar into it along with of all things vinegar. Weird woman.

Finally in went a little corn starch and vanilla before she made three piles of the white wonder and fired it into the oven.

Now this in itself seemed somewhat miraculous but what happened next was the stuff of legend. She showed me the yellow yolks she had set aside and was about to freeze for future use in custard tarts.

There they were lined up perfectly like soldiers. All uniform and symmetrical and intact and orderly.

Brought a whole new meaning to getting your ducks in a row except these were chickens.
