Today she had to find one for the business too as it’s April 1st.
Do you play along with this tradition?
In the French speaking world they call it « Poisson D’Avril » (April Fish!).
There’s lots of theories on where this all originated but it goes way back. Some think it’s related to when New Years was celebrated. Way way way back this was on March 25 and the partying lasted till March 31 so if you were still having a boogie on April 1 you were a fool!
Old Chaucer was in on the fun even if he didn’t look like much of a joker.
Of course nor do I but under my Gizzard is a giggle. We do have a striking resemblance don’t you think?
I’ve helped Ma concoct her dinosaur blend and we have come up with something very special.
It induces sleep in the most vile beasts and will be available for sale nationally soon. Who wants a sip?
Her Bestie, my Auntie Carol, lost her baby girl Maisie yesterday.
Maisie was one of the best dogs ever born. I’m the other. Ma feels awful because she can’t be at Carols side today. They are like sisters you see.
I never did met Maisie but my predecessor Dibley and her were aquatinted and surprisingly got along.
Dibley was a spoiled dominant purebred sort but Miss Maisie in her own quiet way put him in his place. Ironically Cushings Sydrome took them booth!
She was a rescue like me. Had very few teeth due to malnutrition before her adoption but she was a mighty Maisie full of spunk.
She was her Moms baby girl just like I’m my Moms baby boy.
She loved to walk and spent many happy hours on country roads.
She has crossed the big rainbow bridge that we all will cross some day and is in good company with her friends and family watching over all of us. I’ll meet her there sometime for sure.
You are in luck peeps it’s your Pretty Pitty Princess here again.
I have been tasked to report on the Oscar’s as it’s a girly sort of event especially the fashions.
We all had long naps yesterday so we could go the distance and stay up to cheer on BELFAST which was up for seven awards.
Scooby whispered in my ear that I was to be on my best behavior and sit still and watch and for sure there would be endless treats as Ma can’t watch TV and not eat!
He was right. There were peanuts, ice cream and popcorn all on the go during the session that started with the red carpet at 6:30 and ended with the best movie award at 11:45
We were all enjoying when something very surprising happened. One of the hosts upset an actor and the actor smacked him.
At first we thought it was part of a routine but then the screen went blank for a moment and we realized it was no joke.
It was one of those moments that I can relate to. Sometimes I’m a little impulsive and do things I shouldn’t and then I regret it immediately afterwards. Let’s hope it doesn’t overshadow a well deserved win for Will!
It sort of spoiled the show though until the good Sir Kenneth stepped up to take his Oscar and we all felt better because times move on and Belfast is much better today healed and happy.
Bet you were thinking the Gizz had finally done me in or Granny had left me to play alone amongst the traffic.
Well sorry to disappoint anyone but the Prettiest of Pitty Princesses is very much alive and kicking.
Yesterday morning I was feeling rather hungry after my meager ration had been inhaled.
So I tried to eat a dead mole on the way home from the park.
People kill them around here because they dig up lawns so I was getting in on the act and trying to help.
I couldn’t get the critter crunched though and had to spit it out. Slithery little sucker. Granny didn’t even bother to try wedging it from my jaws. She’s given up and says if I die I die. Full of compassion is Granny.
She was a bit quicker off the mark when I broke a glass a little later trying to suck the last drops of milk from it’s bottom.
I got them but she nearly had a melt down.
She had to piece the bits back together like a jigsaw to make sure I hadn’t swallowed any.
It was one of Grandpa’s favorite whiskey glasses so of course he called me all the names of the day.
It’s not exactly my fault that Ma is drinking milk from a whiskey glass!
I told the Gizz what I had done and he gave me some advice.
For the rest of the day keep the communication brief. No barking!
He also recommended I focus on shredding paper rather than hard goods as they did in his young days.
So I smacked him one on the neck as a thank you and lay low.
Now I’m ready once more for action
Look out Powell Peeps this Pitty is now Poised for a Peak Performance!
I was on my way to work real early or so I thought until just outside town Ma took a left and I knew I was headed to the groomers.
OH NO!
We got there at 10:00 but there was no sign of life.
Another dog and their human showed up but still no groomer.
We called and texted and rang the door bell and walked around to look for the groomers dogs. Nothing!
So we left at 10:15 and I came to work. We heard later from her that she was in bed sick and asleep.
It poured so hard the rain pelted in the open car window and I had to escape to the back seat. I got a partial bath rather than the full works!
Worse still it also water also started running through the window that Ma had paid $2000 to install last fall.
Many towels were needed to mop up the mess and the installers came quickly to see if they could repair it but things seemed to get worse instead of better.
Poor Ma had to soldier on and smile when customers came but she has just about had it and is ready to throw in the towel on this old building that never seems to give her a break.
I did my best to console her on the way home and give her my best counsel as she was freaking out a bit.
Just as well I kept my coat on. I’m more like a good old cuddly toy when I’ve got it and she sure needed one!
