The car was back in the shop again so Ma didn’t get to the project today.
The hydraulic on the trunk that helps it spring open and stay open had broken so it felt like lead. Poor thing has been overworked. It’s divine intervention telling her to quit buying junk.
Since she didn’t know quite how long the repair would take she left me home with Dad to watch and wait!
Before that though we had a great flurry of activity.
Deer in the yard.
Squirrels going crazy. Chipmunks making apparitions
Birds doing dances and kissing each other in mid air. We’d never seen this before and didn’t get a pic but you get the feeling!
You name it everything was frisky.
I will be too.
Since the garage is half way to the local Amish store herself is back with a load of deli meats and cheese.
Ma is as mad as a hatter. Absolutely fuming. I had to tell her to get wine when she came home just now.
First disaster of the day she ordered her menu cards on vista print only to discover she’d made a mistake on the phone number and on the alignment of her images.
She had a online chat with vista and they were super helpful. They cancelled the order and gave her a credit she can use to order the new and improved version. She planned to work on final touches and reordering tonight but is too mad to concentrate.
The window cleaner who had been out last week to give her an estimate arrived at 9:30 this morning. He wasn’t cheap to begin with but then the trouble started.
First, he said he couldn’t do the inside bits of the downstairs windows between the panes as the screens were screwed in and misaligned. Well shouldn’t he have seen that before?
So Ma asked him to do another estimate excluding the downstairs as she could clean the inside and outside of the windows herself she didn’t need him for that.
He gave her the revised estimate and assured her he’ll do a great job upstairs and so one hour after arriving he starts.
Not half an hour later he’s back. Says it’s taken much longer than he anticipated and that he can’t do the upstairs for what he estimated and in addition all the windows need caulking before cleaning.
By now Ma has lost all confidence so she says she just wants cleaning not caulking. He then says he’s not willing to do the job without caulking.
Impasse!
He leaves and says Ma owes him $50 for the one window he cleaned.
She took her anger out on some dirty siding. She scrubbed it till it was gleaming. Better than any power washer my Ma when she’s in a mood like this.
I tried to amuse her by squeaking pinky but she was having none of it so I am pretending to sleep till she cools down.
After a trot round “The Retreat” aka the block we hit the road.
Ma was getting her second shot. I just wish she had to get ten as this is fun.
The injection done we spent big at Goodwill a whole $28 or as my Dad says 2800 cents. Lots of candle sticks, pictures, photo frames, a gigantic salt and pepper set, magazine rack, basket and of course since Dad was there books! This time for resale!
We were hungry after that so noshed down some MacDonalds. They are not very imaginative my parents it’s always the same take away! They share though so I shouldn’t really complain.
We stopped on the way back in a little town called Mount Victory. It’s basically a street of antique stores. Ma does not shop much in such stores she just snoops to get ideas.
We then stopped at a flea market in a place that sounds like an onion Byhalia and she bought a lamp shade.
By now I thought we were heading home but no! Onwards and upwards to the capital city Columbus.
A guest house was being totally remodeled so current fixtures and fittings were for sale. We didn’t spend a cent but well be back tomorrow when there is 50% off. OKEE
Ma took me with her today to show me all the progress.
We zoomed past the sausage shop which was sad but i almost snagged a tea bone bone in the parking lot of our store that someone how made it’s way there. Cayote?
Inside I admired the progress.
This now includes the new industrial fridge that just just opens without touching the hand sink. It’s a tight squeeze in that little kitchen but sure all she’ll be doing is make tea and assemble treats.
Our car needed a refreshment too this afternoon. It was super low on gas.
I told her to stop as we passed a lot of stations but she said she could squeeze another twenty miles out of it to get gas ten cents cheaper.
I was biting my nails when The you cannot go further light came on but she made it. One day she’ll run out of steam.
In the meantime we’ll just keep on singing one of her old favorite songs.
I’ve been left standing looking out the window since 8:00 this morning.
Dad is good for treats but he doesn’t take me anywhere.
Herself however has been forgiven as it’s been a momentous day.
She got her « I must mop it twice a day » kitchen floor installed per hygienic design requirements for a food prep area.
This afternoon the big delivery arrived the fridge and the three welled sink.
Happy days!
She also made some first attempts at window decoration and the final straw she stuck her sign in the ground announcing what lies ahead.
No turning back now.
Unless of course that is to come home and take me for a trot. She didn’t bring me or Dad a Dunkin Donut though and i have good evidence she bought those men a big box!
So I’m feeling fine and frisky once more yet was subjected to another day of rest and recovery as herself had a hot date with a window cleaner.
You can tell things are approaching a grand finale when people start detailing.
Well Dad and I did laundry and snacked a lot on cookies until herself return.
She did a rapid turnaround though as he trunk has stopped functioning properly. The trunk hatchback door all of a sudden became like a lead weight so she’s away again to see Mike at 42 Auto.
Weird and wonderful the things that can go wrong with a vehicle. I’m becoming quite the expert on automotive transport.
Four paws are much simpler than four wheels you never have to worry about gas unless you’ve been on the beans!
I understand though the need for the motorized vehicle they take you a little outside your comfort zone and are great for adventures
