Wagging Tail- 291

Yesterday we were talking about snow flakes and how it’s impossible to take a photo of them falling.

Well guess what? We went to our woods today and there was a story all about photographing snowflakes!

These stories are a really cool thing that the parks department do in our area. They put little boards with pictures of the tale for parents to read to their kids as they walk along. My Mom reads them to me.

Today’s was Snowflake Bentley. It is about a real person who was obsessed with snow.

We thought that this was a modern problem but seems Snowflakes Bentley mastered the art.

It was his life’s work and he even had to make a huge camera to do the deed.

We didn’t see a flake fall today just a lot of ice.

That’s easier to capture. Even we can handle it.

Numbers don’t matter that much to me at all unless they relate to snacks then I can count real good!

Sometimes, especially at tea time we play one for you and one for me with our cookies. I get little bits Ma and Pa get whole ones.

When the lid is back on the box the game is over. No more till tomorrow about the time the little hand is at three

There are other numbers that are related to things we own. One day they are up the next they’re down. Ma would like them to go up though!

Numbers like those in my bro’s car always go in that direction. They just climbed on the clock to 150000. Ma couldn’t get the roll over exactly but you get the picture! She’d like them to stop but knows they won’t.

Today we were cleaning one of her treasures, a little horse. We thought it was grey until we took the toothbrush to it and discovered it was white. You can’t count the dirt but now you can count the roses more clearly. Sometimes to see the numbers you have to get things in better focus.

Who can count snowflakes though? Great big fat ones were falling here today and Ma tried to get their picture but all she got were the plants in our kitchen window.

Somethings are beyond human capacity that’s why we canines never bother counting unless it’s munchie.

The Father had to get his first COVID vaccine shot today so I was left home alone.

No complaints at all dear peeps. I get treats when they go out without me and I get peace to snuggle up with my piggy in my cosy little kennel in the kitchen.

The vaccine was given at the hospital close to the project so of course they planned a visit there and then lunch and then some treasure hunting. So I was well warned that they would be away for a loooooooooog time.

It’s been a while since Ive had some time to myself for a little sweet snoozing when I can totally tune out.

Flip, forget that! I’d hardly closed the eye for the second time let alone the forty winks when the bro lands in.

Seems he forgot a whole load of things!

My foot. Truth be told he needed a cuddle with me.

The bro went back to college yesterday so it is excessively lonely and dull around here.

As I watch for him out the window I see such a grey and gloomy day and know no matter how long I look he won’t be back till the weekend.

I feel quite down. The only thing for it was a good snooze.

I bet the Biden boys Champ and Major are feeling a lot friskier than me today as they have been reunited with all their family at The White House.

Champ is the elder statesman and is experienced to living in the capital

For Major Biden though it’s all new. Did you know he is a rescue dog like me.? Seems the first ever to live in that big place.

Hope he’s doing a good job keeping guard as Champ probably needs a lot of support.

I’m sure he’ll do fine. We lads can’t let the side down. Gotta get straight to business and do our duties keeping the family safe.

When I was a tiny scared little rescue person and came home to my family my tummy was very dickie for a few days.

We went through a lot of cleaner and used up all the supplies my predecessor left me. Dad was sent shopping with the bro to get some stock while Ma stayed home to care for me. As is Dads habit he didn’t buy just one bottle he bought enough to last a lifetime.

Now here is the good news. Not only is this great for cleaning up little accidents small canines might make it’s also miraculous for nuking all sorts of household stains.

Take for example this morning. Ma threw half her cup of coffee over the carpet.

In an instant though this product that I was responsible for discovering made it vanish instantly.

So dear reader even if you have no canine get yourselves a drop of this magic. It’s the next best thing to ice-cream or a dog itself.

It’s funny the things that stir the memories. Smells do it for me but Ma says old pictures do it for her.

Yesterday on one of her nostalgic Facebook groups someone had put a photo of a « coal hole » and asked if people remembered having one in their home and what they stored in it if it wasn’t used for coal itself.

Oh for sure Ma remembered hers and of course she had to tell a whole story about it too!

The star of this show was my Granny who passed away exactly four years ago yesterday. It was like she was pushing the post.

Since I’m only two I met Granny only in the heavenly realm before she dispatched me down here to take care of my Ma and bro.

Seems she was quite the character. Not a great lover of dogs as she thought we were mucky and she liked CLEAN!

Ironically though the first photo we have of her features one of my kind.

She was quite fiercely protective of her family and the go to person if anyone needed taking care of or better still « sorted out Â»

She was not someone you’d want to argue with and she certainly didn’t entertain fools lightly.

I’m so sure we’d have got along just great and am convinced that’s why she choose me for my current position!

It’s clear as crystal and written in black and white that we are not billionaires. The winning ticket was bought in Michigan just one state away.

We’d been waiting for the results to decide where herself would go to get some new boots. It won’t be Saks for Jimmy Choo’s!

The current boots were new at the start of the season but in just three months we’ve walked holes into the soles and heals of both of them. Now they are leaking something shocking so herself has wet tootsies on a regular basis.

We went to Walmart and she got a pair of Wellies. She says they are so shiny you could pass them off as Jimmy’s.

They smell rough though, just like rubber.

That’s yet another great thing about my kind we don’t need all that fancy footwear. We come fully equipped for all weathers!

The weekend got off to a super sniffing start. I just love a wee trip to the forest.

It’s not just the doggy calling cards you get to sniff. There is cayote, deer, fox, raccoon, essence of skunk, squirrel and my favorite possum.

After we did the trails we went to the Amish store to get the bro some ham and cheese for his dorm. He moved his things in this morning but is moving in only next week. He has to have a reserve Ma says. I said I’d have some too as that smell of ham and cheese is heaven.

Once home herself started getting more springy thingies ready for her booth.

Now here is a puzzling thing. She has all these flowers falling out of watering cans and baskets and there is not even a tiny tingle that they transmit to my nostrils.

Maybe that’s why her sales stink!

I might have to consult experts as this is getting beyond a joke.

We had to get the big car serviced today as every imaginable light was coming on. Check this thing, check that thing, check the other thing if you don’t act immediately this thing is going to STOP!

So we dropped it off first thing this morning and then we were stuck at home waiting.

Now this time could have been used to walk or snooze or eat or a combination of the same. No way!

Herself brought the garage horde inside and started sorting.

There wasn’t room to move and it went on for SIX and One Half Hours!!!! During which herself was binge watching some hateful program call the Borgias.

The bro even pretended I was being prepared for sale!

I felt like running for the hills. It was incredibly boring.

At the end of the day, that would be episode five of the dreaded medieval monsters the sofa was once again my own.

The car was fixed, all instruments calibrated and $500 paid out. Of course you know who got it, the bro and Ma and me got landed with the banger as usual.

It’s as well I slept well last night as it’s been hectic here.

First up, Ma had to sort out a problem at the project about a blocked toilet of all things. Quite disgusting!

After that we had to go to get her an annual check up on a matter only girls talk about.

Still, this meant I got a good ride in the car which made up for the sprint of a walk earlier.

The ride home was at breakneck speed so she’d see every bit of President Biden and Vice President Harris’s inauguration.

Tears were tripping her as she watched the first ever woman VP sworn in.

The ceremony was beautiful. Lady Gaga, JLo and Garth Brooks were all brilliant and that young poet Amanda Gorman was amazing.

It was the President though who won the day with his speech. Some said up there with Lincoln’s. Let’s pray his words come true.
